Heather White, Founder of One Green Thing, to Speak at Meredith College

Heather White, founder and CEO of One Green Thing, will present “Green Civics: Democracy Isn’t a Spectator Sport,” at Meredith College on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024. The lecture will be held at 7 p.m. in Jones Auditorium.

White is a nationally recognized conservation and environmental policy expert and a frequent spokesperson in national media on climate, energy, and conservation issues. Her nonprofit, OneGreenThing.org,  tackles eco-anxiety through joyful daily action, inspiring culture change for policy solutions. Her talk at Meredith will focus on “climate change, citizenship, and civics to build the future we want.”

In her more than 20 years of experience, White has worked as a litigator at a prominent Nashville law firm, a campaign staffer and recount attorney for Al Gore’s presidential campaign, the energy and environmental policy legislative counsel for U.S. Senator Russ Feingold, and adjunct law professor at Georgetown University Law Center and the University of Tennessee College of Law. White directed environmental education advocacy at the nation’s largest conservation organization, ran an environmental health watchdog in Washington, D.C., and led the nonprofit partner to Yellowstone National Park.

She is also the author of Eco-Anxiety: Saving Our Sanity, Our Kids, and Our Future (Harper Collins 2024), 60 Days to a Greener Life: Ease Eco-Anxiety Through Joyful Daily Action (Harper Collins, 2024), and One Green Thing: Discover Your Hidden Power to Help Save the Planet (Harper Collins, 2022).

This event is made possible with support from the Environmental Sustainability Program, School of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, and Carla Ashley, ’78. The lecture is free and open to the public. For Meredith students, this convocation qualifies as an academic/cultural event in General Education.
