Faculty/Staff Accomplishments – July 2024

In this issue, we celebrate the accomplishments of faculty/staff in business, communication, marketing, and music.

Several members of Meredith’s Marketing Department participated in the HighEdWeb 2024 North Carolina Regional Conference on June 18 at UNC-Chapel Hill. Senior Web Developer and Designer Liza Bunce and Director of Web Development David Timberlake served as volunteers on the HighEdWeb board and were involved in the conference planning process. They also moderated presentations during the event. Director of Recruitment Marketing Gaye Hill and Assistant Director of Visual Communication-Multimedia Charlotte McKinney presented “How to Build a Successful In-House Video Team” and Videographer and Multimedia Designer Jimmy Boston served as volunteer photographer for the conference.

Director of Public Relations Melyssa Allen, Marketing Communications Specialist Rocio Antelis, and Social Media Strategist and Content Producer Anna Blount attended the College News Association of the Carolinas (CNAC) annual conference at UNC-Wilmington June 23-25. CNAC members are higher education public relations professionals from public and private schools across the two Carolinas. Sessions were focused on social media best practices, generative AI tools for communicators, and marketing strategies.

Dr. Nancy L. Johnson, CPA, CFEI, Instructor of Accounting in the School of Business was appointed to the North Carolina State Board of CPAs Education Task Force. In this role she is representing Meredith College to collaborate with professors from North Carolina universities and colleges to influence educational pathways for certification, address labor shortages in the profession, and advise on scholarship opportunities.

Associate Professor of Communication Lynn Owens led the broadcast news division of the North Carolina Scholastic Media Institute at UNC-Chapel Hill in June. Hundreds of high school journalism students from across the state attended the three-day program. Director of Instrumental Activities Jim Waddelow conducted the 12th annual Oklahoma Haydn Festival Orchestra in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Friday, June 26. The orchestra played Haydn symphonies 58, 85, and Horn concerto number 2.
