CCGC Prospective Members

Capital City Girls Choir is not accepting new students as of Spring, 2024

A Message from Dr. Wozencraft-Ornellas:

Dear members of the CCGC Family,

I would like to congratulate you on a wonderful Spring concert performance, capping what has been an active and musical year.  A heartfelt “Thank you” to Cameron, Claudia, and everyone for your dedication and hard work.

Sadly, I must announce that we will be suspending Capital City Girls Choir for the immediate future.  This is due to rising expenses and declining enrollment, which has not fully recovered since COVID.  In order to keep the ensembles going for the past 3 years, we have had to dip deeply into our reserve funds, and can no longer sustain the costs.  All Community School of Music activities, including CCGC, are tuition-driven and must be self-sustaining.

When CCGC was founded, it was the only girls ensemble in the Triangle, serving a population with few other outlets.  In the intervening 36 years, the area has seen the development of numerous other treble/girls ensembles and children’s choirs. Those are sustained with grants from County, State, and other foundations for which CCGC (as part of the larger institution) is ineligible.  We appreciate all of the parent volunteer hours that have been essential to the functioning of CCGC in the past, and we hope that you enjoyed being a part of the choir as much as we enjoyed working with you.  However, we also recognize that parents’ lives have become much busier in the past several years, and they no longer have the time to devote to the volunteer work needed for this organization.

The new Raleigh Youth Choirs now provide opportunities for singers such as you, and are led by a talented staff, many of whom have worked in the past with CCGC.  While we will miss our Monday evening activities with these talented young singers, we sincerely hope that you will take advantage of one of the numerous other choral activities available across the area.  We hope that you will continue to attend concerts and participate in summer camps with Meredith as they develop.

Best wishes – keep singing!

Scholarships

Caberet Singers Smiling. At CCGC, we believe that tuition and fees associated with being part of our choirs should never keep a singer from participating. We are able to offer scholarships for annual tuition as well as travel.  If you are in need of financial assistance, please fill out this scholarship application and return it to the CCGC Board President. The President is available during most rehearsals to take applications, as well as by email at ccgc@meredith.edu.

The CCGC Scholarship Committee will meet to determine the amount of scholarship that will be awarded.  Please note that this process can take up to a month; especially if there are other applications being considered at the same time. Families who apply for financial assistance will be asked to reapply each school year.
