Scheduling An Appointment

Students who would like to schedule an appointment with a counselor or are seeking information, please call (919) 760-8427. Appointments can also be scheduled in person between 1:00pm-5:00pm, Monday through Friday.

Walk In Hours

Sometimes students may need support or assistance with problem solving while they wait for their next appointment. The Counseling Center/Disability Services has regular walk-in problem solving hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10:00am.

Students experiencing a mental health crisis are encouraged to take advantage of the walk-in crisis hour Monday through Friday at 1:00pm.

Faculty & Staff

Faculty and staff who would like to consult with our office are encouraged to use our consultation hours, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10 a.m.. Faculty and staff are also welcome to call during the 1:00pm walk-in crisis hour, however students in crisis will take priority. Please be aware that because of confidentiality we are unable to disclose information about a student without that student's written consent. If you would like to speak with us about a specific student, we encourage you to have her sign an authorization form.

 

Meet Our Staff

Beth Meier, MA, LPA
Director

Beth Meier has been at Meredith since August of 1993 and has been the Director since May 1995. She is a Licensed Psychological Associate. Beth attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where she earned a B.A. in Psychology and an M.A. in Counseling Psychology. She completed a doctoral internship at Virginia Commonwealth University. As a part of her graduate work, Beth worked for the Department of Child Family Service counseling incest survivors and their families. She also worked for Charter Northridge Hospital, a psychiatric hospital, for two years as a caseworker. Her counseling interests include depression, relationship difficulties and abuse issues. She has received training in Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), crisis intervention, coaching, and group counseling. She approaches counseling from an interpersonal, cognitive behavorial, and psychodynamic theoretical background.

Jill Triana, MS, LPCS
Assistant Director, Coordinator of Disability Services

Jill Triana joined the Counseling Center/Disability Services staff in 2002 and has served as Coordinator of Disability Services since 2006. She has filled many roles in her time at Meredith, beginning as a Gradute Intern. Currently, Jill provides leadership to the Disability Services Team, maintains a caseload of counseling students, and serves on a variety of college-wide committees. She completed her B.A. in Psychology from Sweet Briar College (VA) and earned her Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling & Psychology from UNC-Chapel Hill. Jill is a North Carolina Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor. Jill has previous experience working with college students with LD/ADHD, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, substance abuse treatment, and children and adults with Autism. Her professional interests include clinical supervision of licensed-eligible counselors, working with young women with ADHD, body image/eating disorders, adjustment to life transitions, relationship issues, self-advocacy, relaxation skills, and mood disorders.

   

Henriette Williams-Alexander, MSW, LCSW
Assistant Director

Henriette initially joined the Counseling Center staff as a Disability Counselor in January 2007. Prior to that, she served as a Graduate Intern during the 2005-2006 academic year. Henriette completed her B.A. in Sociology from the University of Virginia and earned her Masters in Social Work from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Previously, Henriette worked as an outpatient therapist for at-risk youth at Caring Family Network, a private nonprofit organization. She has experience in working with inner city youth, foster care, and redirection schools. Her professional interests include family of origin concerns, relationship building, spirituality, transition difficulties, and student athletes.

 

   

Liza Gellerstedt, MSW, LCSW

Disability Counselor

Liza Gellerstedt joined the Counseling Center as an intern in 2009-2010 and as a full-time employee in 2011.  She graduated with a B.A. in history in 2007 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and again in 2010 with her Masters in Social Work.  Gellerstedt has previously worked with Wake County Human Services and Holly Hill Hospital serving a diverse client population of adults and adolescents with mental illness in both an outpatient and inpatient setting. 

   

Jeremy Bryant, M.Ed., LPCA

Disability Counselor

Jeremy Bryant began working as a Disability Counselor at Meredith College in the Fall 2012 semester.  Jeremy graduated from Appalachian State University with a BS in psychology.  He then went on to receive his master’s degree in counseling from North Carolina State University.  Jeremy worked previously at North Carolina State University as a staff counselor.  Jeremy’s interests include students with disabilities, the LGBT community, and multicultural issues relating to mental health and the college campus.

Donna LaHaye

Administrative Assistant

Donna joined the Counseling Center as a half time Administrative Assistant in June 2010 and has worked at Meredith College for eight years.  She shares time with the Office of Residence Life.  She provides general administrative support to the Counseling Center, Disability Services, and ResLife.  Donna is married with two college-aged children.
