Food and Nutrition Student Organizations
Kappa Omicron Nu is a national honor society for students seeking a major in the Human Environmental Sciences or Nutrition, Health and Human Performance Departments at Meredith College. Students invited to participate from the sophomore, junior and senior classes for this honor. To be eligible for membership, a student must have:
- a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (overall and at Meredith),
- standing in the upper 25% of her class,
- declared a major (first and second majors) in HES or NHHP,
- completed 45 semester hours with a minimum of 9 hrs in the department major, and
- shown evidence of superior personal qualities and leadership potential.
The Meredith College Nutrition and Wellness Association (MNWA)
Students are encouraged to become student members of the American dietetic Association (ADA) as well as the state and local dietetic associations. Attendance at professional meetings provides students with opportunities for professional growth, networking and career development. Raleigh District Dietetic Association offers mentoring opportunites for Meredith Food and Nutrition students. Students are encouraged to attend/present at the annual ADA Food and Nutrition Conference and Exhibition as well as the North Carolina Dietetic Association annual meeting.
MNWA is a student run organization open to foods and nutrition majors, and other students from across campus. The mission of this group is to provide supplemental learning opportunities and experiences in the discipline to its members, educate the Meredith community on nutrition issues, and provide service to the community. Students in this group have:
- Collaborated with Belk Dining Hall director on Student Healthy Dining event
- Designed campus dining hall table tents for Cholesterol Education Month
- Collaborated with Fashion Merchandising students on Wear Red for Heart Disease display
- Promoted National Nutrition Month on campus
- Developed a DVD for Urban Ministries Diabetes Clinic clients
- Maintained a home delivered meal route for Meals on Wheels of Wake County
- Staffed and participated in RDDA More Foot, Less Fork Race
- Supported Heart Healthy Dining Hall project
- Toiled in the Meredith Garden and promoted local foods
