March 14, 2011
Jean Porter, Reference Librarian, has the following to say about her collection of angels now on display in Carlyle Campbell Library:
Like many collections, my angel collection began without conscious effort. Every fall my church, Fairmont United Methodist Church, has a bazaar. There are always many homemade ornaments and decorations for sale. A few angels have been given to me and some came from craft shows. Over the years I have chosen to purchase angels of many different designs, made from many different materials. In the collection are angels made from paper, fabric, beads of various types, tin, wood, wire, lace, string, wire ribbon, a handkerchief, a string mop, a Hershey’s Kiss, a seashell, an okra pod, a wheat head, pasta, sweet gum ball, pine cone and glass.
Although the angels are not strictly Christmas decorations that is the time I usually try to display some of them at my home. Ironically, I am rarely in town over the holidays since my family lives out of state, so I am very glad to share this collection with the Meredith community.

Benefits of using the LDMR include: sharing educational resources, broadening course offerings, allowing teacher collaboration, saving time, travel and other resources, and removing geographic barriers. Some of the pages on this site will be password protected for specific courses.
The LDMR allows students to view assigned DVDs on their laptops in the comfort of their dorm room, apartment, the library, or anywhere they study. Think of it as a special digital "screening room", click here or you can access it from the Library homepage. Look for it in the left column and click on the Camille Cooper link for a look at our most recent convocation.
Contact Melanie Fitzgerald, fitzgeraldm@meredith.edu, and she can tell you how to get started using the DMR.Lights Out in the Library
Oct. 22, 2010
At the beginning of September, one of the main power switches for the library failed, causing lights on both the main and top floor to go out. The affected panel is over forty years old and replacement switches are hard to come by. Facilities services has order two remanufactured replacements. Both have proven inadequate. In the attempt to install the second switch, more lights lost electricity. Replacement of the full panel will take at least a week and the library will be without power while that work is going on.
Facilities Services is continuing to work to resolve the problem—both in the short and long term. They are seeking alternative suppliers for the failed part. They are looking into temporary lighting solutions, especially for the top floor of the building. They are also beginning planning to fully replace the failing panel, ideally after the end of the fall semester, when library closure will be least disruptive.All-Fiction Book Sale in Library
