Meredith's Child Development Program is an interdisciplinary program where students apply the material discussed

in class to the real world by observing and participating in programs serving young children.

The child development major focuses on students

• incorporating a developmental perspective into their work with children and families;
• establishing partnerships with families and agencies, and
• working with diverse groups of children.

From the beginning, students will gain experience working with children through placements in schools and with community agencies. Students work with diverse populations which will prepare them to work with all children and their families.

Many child development students obtain an on-campus internship at the Ellen Brewer House.

Child development students have the option to obtain licensure in two areas: Birth to Kindergarten (B-K) and

Kindergarten to sixth grade (K-6). For more information on the ease with which child development can be combined

with teacher licensure, visit Meredith’s education department.

Child development faculty do not maintain a list of students available for babysitting nor do they post babysitting notices.
