Meredith Student First to Present at the N.C. Museum of History
While a senior at Meredith College, Amanda While a senior at Meredith College, Amanda Smith,'06, presented her research as part of the North Carolina Museum of History's "History A La Carte" series.
With "The Broken Promise of Brown: A Look at Williamston, N.C.," her research project on school desegregation, Smith was the first student to be selected to present as part of this series.
Brown v. Board legally desegregated public schools, but weak enforcement allowed segregation to continue in communities across the country. Smith's presentation will focus on efforts to implement desegregation in the town of Williamston.
Smith also presented this research as part of Meredith's Celebrating Student Achievement Day, held on campus on April 27. She received an award from Meredith College's Diversity Council in recognition of this research.
