Laptop Program |
The last distribution for new students took place in January. Starting the Fall 2013 semester laptops will no longer be distributed to new students. |
| Fall 2013 laptop upgrade distribution: Continuing students who are eligible to receive a upgrade will receive new laptops at the beginning of the Fall 2013 semester. Emails will be sent to all eligible students. This will be the last upgrade. |
| Leave of Absence change (as pertaining to the laptop program): Students who are participating in the laptop program and request a Leave of Absence will be allowed to keep their laptops during their time away. Students who decide not to return to Meredith will be responsible for returning the equipment to Meredith. |
Software and Hardware Purchasing |
Hardware: Please contact Bill Legge prior to purchasing hardware, in particular external hard drives, printers, monitors, and other items. Meredith has a good vendor with competitive prices for these sources that includes free shipping. Department purchasing is via PO and staff/faculty personal purchasing via credit card can be arranged. |
| Software: Please note that Adobe pricing is very good via our vendor. Contact Bill Legge for pricing. Also, please remember that Adobe offers no upgrade path for newer versions unless a yearly maintenance contract is purchased at the same time as the original purchase. |
| VarsityBuys has changed their sign up procedures for the better!! To sign up for special deals all you need is a Meredith Email address. Once confirmation is made you are eligible to purchase. Remember, you can only purchase one copy of any item. |
Pharos printer queue change: Starting this spring, print jobs that are sent to any Pharos controlled printer or copier will be left in the queue for 4 hours. If you don't retrieve your print job within the 4 hour time limit, you will need to resend the job. No charges will be incurred if you don't retrieve your job. |
| CoursEval: Students can now complete their course evaluations both on and off campus. For questions please email Karen Brenneman. |
Poster 1/2 price sale: Don't forget you can print your posters and other presentation materials for CSA Day in the Print & Copy Center. Beginning April 1st, we are having a HALF-PRICE SALE for wide format jobs on matte/satin paper (sale price will be $1/sq. ft) and gloss paper (sale price will be $1.50/sq. ft). This special will run for the entire month of April. |
Colleague (Datatel-ellucian) Users: The Information Systems team is currently testing a new version of the Colleague User Interface. This new version is web based and has additional functionality including the ability to resize the screen, search for forms and an improved online help system. We expect to begin training and moving all offices to the new Web UI in April. Please email Angela Gouge with any questions. |
Infrastructure Project: The RFP has gone out and bids for the start of the infrastructure project have come in. The first part of the project should start by the end of the semester or the beginning of the summer. This is an extremely important upgrade for the future delivery of technical services at Meredith. |
SMB: An upgrade to newer single line VOIP phones has been completed which will provide improved reliable service in critical labs and workrooms. |

Backup your data!!! We have seen a rise in the number of hard drives failing on our desktops and laptops over the last few months. Hard drives can fail without warning-even if they are new. |
$100: Both portable and desktop external hard drives can be purchased for less than $100. Tech services will encrypt the hard drive and set it up for backup. Email Bill Legge if you want to order a hard drive. Please remember, if you purchase your own hard drive it must be encrypted. Data encryption policy.
If you don't want to purchase an external hard drive there is always the option of using Google Drive as a location to backup files. Email Campus Computing if you need assistance with using Google Drive. |
