Dealing with Junk E-Mail in Outlook 2003
There are several different ways that junk e-mail is controlled in Outlook 2003. They are:
1. Junk E-Mail Filter
2. Safe Senders List
3. Blocked Senders List
4. Safe Recipients List
1. Junk E-Mail Filter
This filter is set to “Low” by default. This setting can be
made higher or lower depending your preference. To change the level of the
filter in Outlook 2003, follow the following steps.
A. Open Microsoft Outlook 2003
B. Select Tools from the top toolbar, and then click Options…

C. From the window that appears, push the Junk E-Mail…
button.

D. This window is where you can change the level of the junk e-mail filter
to the level that you want it to be on. Low is the default
setting.
If you wish to change the level of the filter, simply select the radio button beside the level that you want to change to and then click Ok.

2. Safe Senders List
This list keeps track of all the email addresses whose emails you DON’T
want to have sent to the Junk E-Mail folder. Here is how to add someone’s
email to the Safe Senders List:
A. In the Inbox where you view your messages, right-click the message whose sender you want to put on the Safe Senders list.
B. Select Junk Email, and then click Add Sender to Safe Senders List.

C. Congratulations! This sender will not have any of their messages sent
to your Junk E-Mail folder.
3. Blocked Senders List
This list keeps track of all the email addresses whose emails you DO want to have sent to the Junk E-Mail folder. Here is how to add someone’s email to the Blocked Senders List:
A. In the Inbox where you view your messages, right-click the message whose sender you want to put on the Blocked Senders list.
B. Select Junk Email, and then click Add Sender
to Blocked Senders List.

C. Congratulations! This sender will have all of their messages sent to
your Junk E-Mail folder.
4. Safe Recipients List
This list holds the email addresses of those that you send email to and that the emails you send to these addresses will not be put in the recipient’s Junk E-Mail folder. Here is how to add an email address to your Safe Recipients List:
A. Within the Inbox or Sent Items folder where you view your messages, right-click the message whose sender you want to put on the Safe Recipients list.
B. Select Junk Email, and then click Add Recipient
to Safe Recipients List.

C. Congratulations! This recipient will NOT have any of your emails sent
to their Junk E-Mail folder.
