Blackboard for Students

Assignment tool - In this tutorial, you will learn how to complete and submit an assignment in a course.

Computer Configuration - Match your browser and computer configurations to see if they are compatible with Blackboard at this website. Some browsers, such as Internet Explorer 8, may not be fully certified for use with Blackboard, but may be compatible with most of the system. NOTE: if using Internet Explorer 8, please do not use it to take a Blackboard quiz; some features that an instructor may enable can cause problems. Some browsers are fully certified for use with the Blackboard system, as noted in the chart.

Enrollment information - Enrollment in Blackboard courses is controlled through the Registrar's listing of course enrollments. The Registrar's system updates Blackboard nightly with the latest information for drop-adds. If a course is not being displayed to you, and you are enrolled in it, the instructor may not have made the course available to students yet. Each instructor controls whether a course is available to the students or not. Enrollment in clubs or other organizations is not controlled by the Registrar's system: for access to a club you may need to enroll in the course. An example of enrolling in a club is found at this tutorial.

Guide for taking tests on Blackboard - This document lists a variety of items that may make your experience with taking an online test a little easier.

Password Reset - If you forget your password, please use the "Forgot Password" option on the login screen. By selecting the "Forgot Password" link and completing the requested information on the form, Blackboard will generate an email to your Meredith email account. The email will contain a link for you to reset your Blackboard password.

Podcasts for Students - This tip sheet will help students setup and use podcasting in Blackboard.

Special Characters and Blackboard - Special characters are not supported in the file name of Blackboard course items, assignments, tests, etc. Frequently, the browser will misinterpret the use of the characters and will prevent the files from being accessed. If you have included a special character in an item name, you must rename the item and remove the special character. Special characters are defined as one of the following items: ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ + - = { } [ ] \ | : ; < > ? , . /

Frequently Asked Questions:

     1. How do I remove a course that I had last semester?

Answer: The instructor will need to remove you from any previous courses. Please ask the instructor to make the old course unavailable, or to remove you from it.

     2. How do I request a course on Blackboard for my club or organization?

Answer: Faculty advisors have to request to have a course added for a club or organization. The advisor is responsible to maintain the course for content and users.

     3. Why is my course not showing up on my Home Page?

Answer: A course may not be visible to the student if an instructor has not made the course available yet. If a student is enrolled in the course, and if the instructor has made the course available, the course should be visible.
