Second Nature seeking Graduate Students/Seniors for Paid Sustainability in Higher Education Internships
Application Deadline: March 1, 2011
Description
Second Nature is seeking student interns to work on multiple projects involving sustainability in higher education. Interns will assist with the development of several national programs focused on accelerating the progress of under-resourced and minority-serving institutions in institutionalizing the goal of creating a sustainable society as a core part of their mission. This work will be in support of the goals and objectives of Second Nature’s strategic initiatives, the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (www.acupcc.org) and the Education for Sustainability Innovation Program.
Graduate students are invited to apply, and very capable seniors and recent graduates will also be considered. Minorities are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work independently and as part of a team. Students with excellent academic records (above 3.0/B grade point average) will be considered. Applicants with an academic interest in sustainability are preferred.
Details
Internships require a working presence in the downtown Boston Second Nature office. Interns are expected to work the equivalent of 10-15 hours/week for one year (which can include more summer time hours and less work during the school year), with flexibility around holidays and each individual’s academic calendar. A stipend of $10-12/hour will be provided. Interns will work closely with other Second Nature staff and report to the Director of Strategic Initiatives. Activities may include research on campus sustainability initiatives, outreach to campus representatives nationwide, writing and publishing articles for www.campusgreenbuilder.org and other Second Nature publications, managing the website content, data entry and database management, travel to conferences and workshops, and supporting the Second Nature staff.
