Sustainability at Meredith College
Fall veggie shares available
Beausol Gardens again offers produce deliveries directly to campus this fall and is currently accepting new customers. Fresh vegetables and flowers are delivered to campus in two different sizes, available to employees and students.
Providing access to locally produced food is part of our Greenprint Goal 2. Meredith students, staff and faculty have purchased 90 produce shares since 2009, delivered weekly during the summer, fall, and winter seasons.
Farmer Harry LeBlanc will be on campus Wednesday, September 15th from 11:00am to 2:00pm at the BDH Wellness Wednesday event to answer any questions.
Both Kirk Nuss (nusskirk@meredith.edu) and Laura Fieselman (fieselma@meredith.edu) are also available to answer questions.
More detail from Farmer Harry LeBlanc:
Beausol Gardens is happy to announce this year's winter CSA (community supported agriculture) season. We have been considering the successes and challenges of the past two winters' CSA seasons and adding new options and techniques this year.
The shares should be a mixture of roots and greens which grow happily in our area: beets, turnips, carrots, radishes, daikons, parsnips, sweet potatoes, kale, mustard greens, lettuce, Swiss chard, collards, tatsoi, arugula, kohlrabi, napa cabbage, pac choi, senposai, and hopefully broccoli... and maybe others depending on weather and our creativity... and your suggestions.
The winter CSA will run from October 20 to December 15 - a total of 9 weeks. We will not deliver the week of Thanksgiving, instead we will deliver a double share the week of Nov. 17. During the holiday season we will do special order delivery to the drop sites the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s. Newsletters those weeks will indicate crop availability and price list and you can order exactly what and how much of each thing you want, if you wish. Then you would pay for it when you pick up each of those two weeks.
There will be two share sizes: a full share (designed to feed 2-4 people) and a half share (designed to fee 1-2 people). The cost of the full CSA share is $200 and the half CSA share is $100. Payment is due when you sign up. We have fewer fall/winter shares available than we do for the main season. We suspect we will be fully subscribed quickly, so the sooner you sign up the more likely you will have your share reserved.
Meredith Deliveries will likely be 4:00 - 5:00 PM on Wednesdays, but may be Tuesday afternoons 4:00 4:30 PM. Details will follow, once we have a better feel for how many members we will have at each location and each day.
