What is Splash?

Splash is a one-time service experience that will give you the opportunity to meet new students, have fun, and make a difference in the world. What’s not to love?! On Saturday, August 22, 2009 more than 100 Meredith students will join college students from across the state of North Carolina, including students from NC State, UNC, Duke, ECU and other local colleges, to pack over ONE MILLION meals to be distributed to hungry people around the world through the hunger relief organization, Stop Hunger Now!

$10 Feeds 40 People!

The current economic crisis has set the stage for significant challenges-both for those in need and for those seeking to respond. The world's hungry struggle each day to pay for a single spoonful of food  and stand by in fear and frustration as the cost of that spoonful soars.  Exorbitant increases in food prices also means more families have joined the ranks of the world's hungry.  More than ever, they need Stop Hunger Now.
 
To package one million meals $250,000 needs to be raised (one million meals costing twenty five cents each). Additional help is needed by all of the participants in order to reach our goal.
 
How can you help?

We are respectfully requesting that each group registered to volunteer at this year's event raise a $10 average donation per volunteer.  A pledge confirming each group's commitment to raise these funds should be received by May 15, 2009.  Payments will be due by the packaging date. FYI: A volunteer packages approximately 288 meals (.25 each) during a shift (cost for packaged food by 1 person is $72)

• NCSU Talley Student Center & Carmichael Gymnasium

• "Lunch on the Lawn" provided by Belk Dining Hall/Canned Food Drive for Food Bank of Eastern North Carolina (11am-1pm)

Lunch on the Lawn

The fun doesn’t end there. Meredith is hosting "Lunch on the Lawn," from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in front of the Belk Dining Hall. Stop over for great food, live music, and another great opportunity to help alleviate hunger through our canned food raffle. Bring canned and non-perishable food to lunch and be entered to win prizes. All donations will go to the Food Bank of Eastern North Carolina.
