Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Health Center handle major emergencies or major illnesses?
No. Only minor illnesses and emergencies will be treated by the Health Services staff. Major illnesses and injuries will be referred off campus or to family physicians. In case of an emergency, call Campus Police at (919) 760-8888 (or "8888" from a campus phone).
Will the Health Center share my records?
All records at the Health Center are confidential. Health records are not available to anyone other than the Health Center medical staff without the written permission of the patient.
Will the Health Center send a note to my professor if I have to miss class because I was sick?
Written class excuses are not provided by the Carroll Health Center. Nurses will, however, verify that the student was seen at the Health Center at the request of a faculty member. Specific medical details will not be released without the written permission of the student.
Are Health Center services free?
Health fees cover costs of physician and nursing services rendered in the Health Center.
The student health fee is included in the residence fee paid by students living in the residence halls. Meredith College apartment residents and commuter students must pay the Health Center fee, $100 per semester, to receive services.
Some prescriptions, x-rays, laboratory tests, the Gyn-Clinic, student teacher physicals, emergency room fees, and consultations with physicians off campus must be paid for by the student.
Are my visits to the Health Center part of my student record?
All records are confidential information and are not part of your permanent educational record at Meredith.
