Students Return from Service Trip Assisting Hurricane Victims
A group of students from both of Raleigh's women's colleges recently returned from a service trip to Gulfport, Miss., to assist with continuing clean-up efforts from Hurricane Katrina.
A group of 12 Meredith College students, along with a student from Peace College, spent a portion of their winter break on this service trip in Gulfport. Staff from both colleges accompanied the students. full story

Meredith Professors Discuss Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina
A panel of five Meredith professors spoke recently about Hurricane Katrina, its aftermath and the lessons the United States is learning as a result. Clyde Frazier, Janice Swab, Carrie Cokely, Dan Fountain and Henry Steele each spoke from their areas of expertise as they relate to Hurricane Katrina. Frazier, a professor of politics and a childhood resident of New Orleans facilitated the discussion. full story

Meredith's Student Business Advisory Board, Other Organizations to Hold Fundraiser
The organizations representing Meredith's School of Business and its student body are contributing to Hurricane Katrina Relief. Student Business Advisory Board (SBAB), is working with Delta Mu Delta, Pi Sigma Epsilon and any other business organization that is interested, to raise money for those suffering following the hurricane.
The organizations will be hosting a bake sale on Wednesday Sept. 21, from 8 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Cate Center. Each member of the organization has been asked to contribute her time and money in baking items and donating them to the sale.

Mardi Gras Bead Fundraiser a Success
During the College's September 10 Sister Hazel concert, the Meredith College Social Work Club sold Mardi Gras beads as a fundraiser for Hurricane Katrina victims.
The beads were sold for a minimum donation of $2, with all proceeds going directly to the American Red Cross's hurricane relief efforts. The total amount of money raised was $731.
Meredith College Organizes Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts
The students, faculty and staff of Meredith College are continuing to organize Hurricane Katrina relief projects.
The Meredith College Service Council has organized the effort into four sub-committees: fundraising, direct service, supply donations and an educational panel discussion. For a list of organizers click here.
Already, the College has welcomed three college students who were displaced from Gulf Coast-area colleges by the Hurricane and sponsored a number of fundraisers and projects to support hurricane relief.
During the College's September 10 Sister Hazel concert, the Meredith College Social Work Club sold Mardi Gras beads for a minimum donation of $2, with all proceeds going directly to the American Red Cross's hurricane relief efforts. On September 8-9, the Meredith College Democrats and Meredith College Republicans collected new toys and clothing for victims of Hurricane Katrina who have been relocated to Wake County. In addition, the Office of Volunteer Services has coordinated an effort to collect materials needed to support rescue workers in the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina.
