APS Psychology Jeopardy
This year, 2012, marked the 15th anniversary of the Conference's popular tradition of having a Psychology Jeopardy competition to close out the day on Saturday. Dr. Jim Kalat of North Carolina State University once again created the questions and Dr. Mark O'Dekirk hosted the event. Three colleges competed in a game modeled after the television show, except that all questions pertained to various aspects of psychology. The winning team received a trophy to take home to its school, as well as having its school's name engraved on a trophy held at Meredith College, which identifies the winners from every year. The winning team members also won prizes donated by the Association for Psychological Science. Prizes were also given to the other competitors and have included items such as books related to the discipline and/or and gift certificates to restaurants. Barton College won the competition for three consecutive years (2005, 2006, 2007) until Campell University took the trophy in 2008. Old Dominion University won in 2009, however Campbell regained the trophy in 2010 and has kept it since then.
The 2012 competitors were: Campbell University, Barton College and Erskine College.
Students interested in competing in the 2013 APS Jeopardy competition may apply here. The three competing teams consist of two students from each school. Students who compete in Jeopardy are not required to be presenting at the conference themselves but someone from the students' school must be presenting at the conference. Please note that all questions will be able to be answered based on information presented at CPC and basic psychological knowledge.
