A Welcome from the Meredith President…
Greetings and welcome to the web site for Meredith College, one of the largest women's colleges in the U.S.
At Meredith, we provide challenging, transformative academic experiences that prepare our graduates for successful lives as global citizens and leaders. This is a commitment we make to our students and it's one that you'll find illustrated throughout this site.
As you explore our site, be sure to read the first-hand student accounts of the Meredith experience. Learn about the talented, committed professors who mentor our students and the outstanding Meredith alumnae who regularly make meaningful contributions to the world. Find out about our innovative general education curriculum, our wireless laptop program, our study abroad program, our successful NCAA Division III athletics and our co-educational graduate and professional programs. Meredith's leadership development and undergraduate research programs are just two examples of the many opportunities that our students have to shape campus life—and the world beyond.
Our lively campus environment reflects our belief that the best college is also a good community. For example, Meredith's ongoing "Tide of Hope" fundraising efforts have raised more than $100,000 for tsunami victims in Sri Lanka. Meredith has hosted the Komen NC Triangle Race for the Cure for 12 years, the most recent with a record-breaking 23,000 participants. And this fall, we’ll break ground on our first Habitat house.
Each year, our entire campus community focuses on a compelling and timely campus theme. During the 2008-09 academic year, our theme has an environmental focus: "Sustaining our Environment: Developing Our Greenprint." This theme will be incorporated into campus lectures, hands-on learning opportunities, and other academic efforts such as our summer reading program.
You'll also find evidence of our long-term commitment to enhancing the overall Meredith experience through Vision 2010, a strategic plan that outlines a bold vision for the future, and the recently completed Campaign for Meredith, the largest fundraising campaign in the College's history. Through these two historic efforts, we are carving the pathways that will take Meredith—and our graduates—to new levels of excellence.
As you can see, our web site—like the Meredith experience—aims to be dynamic and I encourage you to visit it regularly. Or, better yet, visit us in person and experience for yourself the diverse, collaborative, engaged spirit that characterizes our campus.Sincerely,
Maureen A. Hartford, Ed.D.President
