Meredith's campus gained two additions during 2009, and both made an impact on campus life. In August, the inaugural residents moved into The Oaks student apartments, which are the first new residential building to be constructed at Meredith since the 1980s. More than 200 juniors and seniors call The Oaks home, many of whom would have previously opted to live off campus. The Oaks were built in an environmentally friendly manner, resulting in LEED Silver certification. September brought the opening of the College's new athletic field and track complex, where Meredith's Avenging Angels soccer team defended their 2008 USA South Conference Championship.
