Meredith International Association Holds Annual Cultural Show

On March 1, Carswell Hall came alive with vibrant colors, exciting performances, and a boisterous crowd for Meredith International Association’s (MIA) Cultural Show. This annual event, organized by MIA with the support of the Office of International Programs, serves as a meaningful platform for students to celebrate and highlight the diversity of cultures represented within the Meredith community.

Among the attendees was Katherine Erb,’24, who expressed her excitement about the event, saying, “I really loved watching all the performances and seeing my friends showcase their cultural dresses.” She added, “I’ll highly recommend and encourage others to definitely attend the Cultural Show next year!”

The event featured more than 20 student performers and models, each bringing their unique cultural contributions to the stage, and drew an impressive crowd of over 200 attendees!

The performances that night included dance, singing, poetry recitation, and back by popular demand – modeling to highlight cultural attire from around the world. As the Cultural Show began years ago as a Fashion Show, the modeling portion continues to be a true highlight of the event as students proudly showcase traditional outfits from their home cultures. From colorful saris to intricately embroidered qipao, the rich tapestry of styles and traditions at Meredith College was on full display. Countries and regions represented included India, Pakistan, Palestine, Afghanistan, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, China, Mexico, and more.

The evening concluded with a reception in the lobby, where attendees enjoyed snacks and music from around the world!
