STARS Leadership Corps
The STARS Leadership Corps at Meredith College is a part of the Students and Technology in Academia, Research, and Service (STARS) Alliance whose mission is "Broadening participation in computing through best practices and community building." The STARS Alliance is funding through a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant.
STARS Leadership Corps, or SLC, is a program for Computer Science majors and minors at Meredith. Participation in the SLC gives students the opportunity to lead in activities that reach outside of the Computer Science community and increase interest in Computing. Additionally there is a yearly STARS Celebration that is hosted at one of the participating schools. SLC members have the chance to attend the celebration where they can meet SLC students from other schools, enjoy presentations of research and technology by students and faculty, and learn more about the efforts that are being put forth by other STARS Leadership Corps programs.
Every SLC member works on a project that helps to achieve the goals of the STARS Alliance. Meredith students have participated in projects involving K-12 outreach, service learning, undergraduate research, and internships. SLC members also receive a stipend for every semester of participation. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the SLC at Meredith may contact Kristin Watkins for more information.
