Meredith to Announce Addition of Seventh Varsity Sport Meredith College will hold a special event on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, to announce the addition of its seventh varsity sport. The sport will be revealed to the campus community during the event, which will be held at 4 p.m. at the Meredith Athletic Field and Track Complex. The event will feature Meredith President Dr. Jo Allen, USA South Commissioner Rita Wiggs, student athletes and other campus dignitaries. Free T-shirts, hot chocolate and cider will be available. The Avenging Angels’ newest team will begin play in the 2012-13 academic year. Meredith will be the first college or university in Raleigh to offer this women’s varsity sport. The Meredith College Board of Trustees approved the addition of the new sport at their fall 2011 meeting. Meredith College competes in the USA South Athletic Conference. The College currently fields teams in basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. The new players will join all Meredith athletes in addressing the four core competencies of the Meredith Athletic program: integrity, discipline, respect, and responsibility.
