Author Sonia Nazario to Lecture August 29 Sonia Nazario, author of “Enrique’s Journey,” Meredith’s 2011 Summer Reading Program (SRP) selection, will present a lecture on Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at 7 p.m. in Jones Auditorium. Tickets are required for this event, which is free and open to the public. Because of the speaker’s connection to the SRP book, all first year students are being encouraged to attend the lecture, along with their student advisors and SRP facilitators. Tickets: Tickets will be available to Meredith students, faculty and staff in the Jones Auditorium lobby beginning at 3 p.m. on the day of the event and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Meredith students, faculty and staff are eligible to receive one ticket and will be required to show a Meredith College ID. Beginning at 6 p.m., any remaining tickets will be available to members of the public. Once the auditorium is full, guests will be invited to view the lecture from Jones Chapel. A reception will be held following the lecture in the Johnson Hall Rotunda. This reception is open to all guests. While on campus, Nazario will also speak during a Q&A event for Meredith students, faculty and staff. This event will be held at 3:30 p.m. in Jones Auditorium. “Enrique’s Journey,” the story of a young Honduran boy’s perilous quest to locate his mother in the United States, began as a Pulitzer Prize-winning story for The Los Angeles Times. The article won more than a dozen awards, among them the Pulitzer Prize for feature writing, the George Polk Award for International Reporting, the Grand Prize of the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists Guillermo Martinez-Marquez Award for Overall Excellence. Nazario has more than 20 years of experience reporting and writing about social issues. She began her career at the Wall Street Journal, where she reported from four bureaus: New York, Atlanta, Miami and Los Angeles. In 1993, she joined the Los Angeles Times.
