2011 Top Academic Scholarship Recipients Announced Four students have been selected to receive Meredith College’s top academic awards, the Alumnae Legacy Scholarship and the Meredith College Presidential Scholarship. Monique Kreisman, of Dallas, N.C., Rebecca Shafer, of Cary, N.C., and Alyssa Zsido, of Proctor, Vt., are the 2011 recipients of the Alumnae Legacy Scholarship, Meredith’s only full, four-year, merit based scholarship. The recipients of this full scholarship are selected based on merit, including superior standardized test scores, academic achievement, demonstrated high school and community leadership ability, and strong communication skills. Rebecca Shafer is a senior at Panther Creek High School in Cary, N.C. She is the daughter of Barry Shafer of Cary, N.C., and the late Elisabeth Shafer. She plans to major in art education and pursue a career as a teacher. She has been a member of Key Club, French Club, Environmental Club, a Band/Color Guard Squad Leader, a freshman mentor and member of the Girl Scouts Executive Board and Cary Teen Council. Alyssa Zsido is a senior at Proctor Senior High. She is the daughter of Michele Britain, of Proctor, Vt. Her academic interests are liberal arts, mathematics and education. She is a National Honor Society member, and her high school activities include Future Business Leaders of America, Peer Leader, Drama Club, Women’s Choir and Rock Climbing Team. Established and funded by Meredith College alumnae, the Alumnae Legacy Scholarship is the highest honor available to an entering freshman at Meredith. Additional benefits of the Alumnae Legacy Scholarship include international study, leadership training, enrichment programs and mentoring. The Alumnae Legacy Scholarship is named in honor of the Meredith College alumnae who have led the fundraising effort to create Meredith’s first full scholarship. Presidential Scholar
