Meredith Waste Audit Scheduled for February 23

Meredith College will hold its annual campus-wide waste audit on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the courtyard of Carlyle Campbell Library.

Volunteers will sort through a sample of one day’s worth of trash generated on campus, sorting out reusable and recyclable items.

The purpose of the event is to demonstrate how much recyclable material is being thrown away. The results of this year’s audit will be compared to those from previous years.

Meredith’s first waste audit was held in 2009. The January 2010 audit found that almost 25 percent of campus trash should have been placed in the recycling stream. These items included office paper, bottles, aluminum and cardboard.

Twenty volunteers are needed. Click here to volunteer for the event.
