Meredith Mourns Loss of Trustee Emeritus Lawrence William Lawrence, of Sanford, N.C., an emeritus member of the Meredith College Board of Trustees, passed away on July 19, 2010. Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 22, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Sanford. Lawrence served on Meredith’s Board of Trustees for more than 16 years after joining the Board in 1983. He was elected to emeritus status in 2006. Lawrence served as secretary and vice president of Heins Telephone Company from 1947 until his retirement in 1984, and he served as a consultant for Alltel Corporation from 1984-87. Lawrence was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Sanford, serving as both a deacon and as a member of many of the church’s committees. His extensive community involvement also included service to the Boy Scouts, Sanford Chamber of Commerce, Sanford Rotary Club and the Boys & Girls Club of Sanford and Lee County. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Isabel Heins Lawrence, four sons, six grandchildren and three brothers. Click
