Students Offer Advice for Incoming Freshmen Week 2 Want the inside scoop on Meredith College? Hear it from our students. Meredith College’s Office of Admissions asked a group of rising sophomores, juniors and seniors to share some advice that they believe would benefit an incoming freshman. For this series, we’ll post responses to questions about the Meredith experience, academics and campus life each week throughout the summer. This week’s question: “What’s the one thing you wish you’d known the summer before your freshman year?" •“I wish I had figured out earlier that (especially at Meredith) professors are really willing to work with you if you just go talk to them. I guess I figured once I got to college I was on my own to learn everything, but that’s not the case.” – Allie Hargrove, ’11 •“Be thinking about a future major and look into those classes. Use Meredith’s Academic and Career Planning office to get a head start.” –Sydney Sauers, ’12 •“Not to bring so much stuff! I thought I was going to need all my favorite things with me but I ended up just cluttering my space with things I never used…and it was a pain to move it all out again at the end of the year. You acquire so many things during the year anyway that you should start out with only what you need and then build on that.” –Emily Pappas, ’12 •“I wish my high school teachers wouldn't have scared me so much about college and/or my first year … I wish someone would have been there to tell me to relax and that it would all work out.” —Chloe Williams, ’13 •“I wish I would have talked to a current student about what sorts of things they bought for their room. It’s easy to look at a residence hall room once and think about what you might want to get and then go shopping and forget completely. I would have liked to have known what worked for other students and where they shopped!” —Christina Cole, ’13 Next week’s question: “What has been the most memorable experience you’ve had at Meredith so far?” Learn more about Meredith at www.meredith.edu/admissions, or contact the Office of Admissions at 1-800-MEREDITH.
