Auditorium Holiday Lights Support Sustainability Jones Auditorium is in the holiday spirit with its new red and green lighting display. The design also supports Meredith’s sustainability initiatives because it features repurposed LED traffic lights. The red and green lights, which will temporarily replace the regular floodlights on the front of Jones, are just 16.5 watts each. The regular lights are 500 watts a piece. This makes the actual energy savings to be from 1500 watts to 165 watts. The lighting display was a project by Meredith Events Production Supervisor Cailen Waddell. The lights were purchased for $30 at the State Surplus Property warehouse. “We go to the State Surplus warehouse on a fairly regular basis to keep our eyes out for deals,” said Waddell. “When we discovered the LED traffic lights, we bought a couple to try. Once we saw the beam spread and the color, we thought an architectural application could be ideal.” The lighting will decorate Jones Auditorium through the holiday season. Date Submitted: 2009-12-03 |
