Honor Society Earns Chapter Awards of Excellence

The Meredith College chapter of Kappa Omicron Nu (KON), an honor society for human environmental sciences majors has received two Chapter Awards of Excellence from the national organization.

The Chapter Award of Excellence recognizes quality of programming and leadership development in the network of more than 100 campus chapters throughout the United States. Meredith’s Kappa Delta Omicron Chapter received an award for both the 2007-08 and 2008-09 academic years. Among the activities that merited recognition was an Association of College Honor Societies Social Responsibility Grant for engaging the campus in sustainability efforts.

The awards were announced at the KON Leadership Institute and Undergraduate Research Conference in Nashville, Tenn., August 6-9, 2009. Accepting the awards were Anne Mosteller, the delegate from Meredith College, and the chapter advisor Deborah Tippett, Meredith professor of human environmental sciences. Tippett will assume the elected position as chair of Kappa Omicron Nu for the 2010-2012 term.

The Kappa Delta Chapter of KON was established at Meredith College in 1981 and has inducted approximately 1,000 members. The president for 2007-08 was Nichole Ecklund and for 2008-09 was Amy Dunning. The current officers include: President – Kayla Stanley, Vice President – Jodi Binkley, Secretary – Anne Mosteller, Treasurer – Collette Kinane and Members at Large – Mary Craven Poteat, Donna May, Meredith Busey and Patricia Butler. The advisor is Deborah Tippett.
