Trustee Carol Carson Sloan Passes Away
Meredith College mourns the loss of Board of Trustees member Carol Carson Sloan, who passed away on Friday, July 17, at St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula, Montana.
Sloan was an alumna and longtime trustee at Meredith College. She and her family established the Sloan Family Student Leadership Program, which provided advanced leadership programming opportunities for students at Meredith.
Sloan established with her husband the Carol C. and O. Temple Sloan, Jr. Foundation, granting more than 100 college scholarships to date. She served on the Board of Directors of the YMCA of Raleigh and the Advisory Board of the University of Montana Western in Dillon, Montana. In addition, she served on the Board of Building Together Ministries, American Red Cross, Hearts and Hands for Haiti, where she was actively involved in building an orphanage that now houses over 80 children, and Southwestern Montana YMCA in Dillon.
In addition to her service on Meredith's Board of Trustees, Sloan was also a board member at Peace College, Queens University, Union PSCE and St. Andrews Presbyterian College, and chairman of the Salvation Army's Advisory Board. Further, Sloan was a member of the Raleigh Woman’s Club and a volunteer for the Women’s Center.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home located at 300 St. Mary’s Street in Raleigh, North Carolina. Memorial services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church located at 120 West Hargett Street in Raleigh.
