Sign-Ups in Progress for Meredith Apartments Meredith’s Office of Residence Life began sign-ups for the College’s new apartments on February 23, and 196 students have applied to be among the building’s first residents. “We are very encouraged by the number of students who have already signed up,” said Heidi LeCount, director of residence life. “We will be working with the admissions office to make transfer students aware of this option as well.” LeCount said her office continues to receive applications from students who want to have the convenience of living on campus with the independence of apartment living. “Many of the students who are signing up now are rising seniors who lived off campus during their junior year,” LeCount said. Students who have signed up to live in the apartments will be able to tour their own units on April 25. The apartment project is still on schedule for completion this summer. LeCount is planning for an August 1 opening. Much progress is being made inside the apartment units. Cabinets, counters, dishwashers and floors have been installed in the kitchens and the bamboo flooring is being installed in the living rooms. All furniture and furnishings have been selected. Students were able to provide input on these choices during a furniture fair held on February 19. Choate Construction Company is working on the access from the loop road into the apartments’ parking lot, and is removing the construction entrance. Sarah May, who currently serves as residence director in Brewer Hall, has been hired as apartment manager. She will be assisted by a staff of three students, who will act as resources for residents.
