Healthy Issues Week is Coming Feb. 16-20 Meredith’s Healthy Issues Week will be held February 16-20, 2009. The theme is “Be a Green Machine – Sustaining Your Health & Wellness” Join us for a week of presentations, open houses and campus events that are sure to renew your health, wellness and spirit! This year we have four great presenters starting with our kick-off event on Monday, February 16 – 10 a.m. in Kresge Auditorium. Our keynote speaker, Ashley Christensen, owner and executive chef at Poole’s Diner in downtown Raleigh, will speak about her journey to become one of six female chefs featured in Bon Appetite. Christensen will help us understand the importance of local first and organic second, food and farming and the associated economic and environmental issues. Then look for Lauren Greenfield and her documentary “Kids+Money,” Dr. Thibodeau from Cary Holistic Health, and finally our Mythbusters! panel of experts who will be available to answer all your questions. (Check Enews for specific dates, times and locations.) There are a wide variety of campus events that include a self-defense course, healthy cooking demonstrations, healthy heart information, CPR certification, healthy eating on campus—a series dedicated to teaching us how we can eat healthy right here on campus, along with yoga and aquatic fitness classes. In addition to these, the Counseling Center, Human Performance Lab and Fitness Center will all be hosting open houses so you can drop in and see what they have to offer. And it just wouldn’t be an event without prizes! In order to be eligible for our great prizes all you have to do is pick-up a BINGO card during the keynote event and start attending the programs. For every program you attend you will receive a sticker. The more stickers you collect, the bigger the prize possibilities! The prize drawings will be held in Belk Dining Hall on Monday, February 23 at 1 p.m. Look for bingo cards after the keynote event at these locations: the Meredith Supply Store, Health Center and Student Activities Office. Come join students, faculty and staff as we all learn more about health and wellness.
