Meredith Athletics Supports Cancer Research Initiatives
The Meredith basketball team in conjunction with the athletic department will participate in several initiatives in the coming weeks in support of cancer research:
Kay Yow Tribute - January 27 - A moment of silence for N.C. State Women's Basketball Coach Kay Yow will be held prior to the game against Averett. The coaching staff will wear an upside-down pink ribbon in honor of Coach Yow. Fans will be encouraged to make a donation to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund in her memory.
Suits for Sneakers - January 31 - Meredith coaches will wear sneakers with their suits on Saturday's game at Ferrum. The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), in conjunction with the American Cancer Society, has created this initiative to unite coaches from across the country in the common effort to raise cancer awareness in their communities. All USA South conference schools are planning to participate.
WBCA PinkZone Game - February 8 - Meredith will host their second annual WBCA PinkZone game as they host Christopher Newport at 2 p.m. The PinkZone game will encompass several fund raisers in support of the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. The Meredith College athletics department will sell pink Avenging Angels t-shirts, host a raffle and collect donations with all proceeds going to the fund. There will also be organizations in attendance with educational materials. The WBCA PinkZone initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. All USA South conference schools are planning to participate.
