Meredith Trustee Named "Woman Extraordinaire"

Maureen O’Connor, a member of Meredith College’s Board of Trustees, has been named a “Woman Extraordinaire” by “Business Leader” magazine.

O’Connor, one of ten recipients of this year’s award, is the chief administrative officer of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. She is responsible for Law and Regulatory Affairs, Corporate Governance, Compliance and Ethics, Audit and Risk Management, Human Resources, Corporate Communications, and Strategic Development. O’Connor joined BCBSNC in 2000 as vice president and deputy general counsel and later assumed the roles of chief compliance officer and general counsel.

The awards were presented at a ceremony on December 8, 2008, and the recipients will be featured in the magazine’s December issue. The magazine describes the “Women Extraordinaire” recipients as “extraordinary women who have shown a winning combination of leadership, achievement, innovation and inspiration in their roles in business, family and the Triangle community.”

Previous “Women Extraordinaire” include Meredith College President Maureen A. Hartford who received the award in 2007 and alumna and trustee Michelle Rich Goode, ’73, who was awarded in 2006.
