Meredith Art Gallery Turns Reading Day into Cookie Day Meredith’s Gaddy-Hamrick Art Center was the setting for a special Reading Day break on December 4, 2008. The art gallery hosted “Cookie Day” a fundraiser that allowed campus community members to buy and decorate cookies while viewing the senior show. Participants could purchase two cookies for $1, and coffee or cider for 50 cents. Different color icings, sprinkles and other candies were available to help turn the sugar cookies into “works of art.” Funds raised will support next semester’s senior art exhibition. Freshmen Lauren Casteen and Cenaya Williams, who serve as gallery assistants, organized the event. Gallery Director Ann Roth said the event was meant to offer a Reading Day break, and to encourage the campus community to view the student artwork currently being exhibited in the Weems Gallery and in Gaddy-Hamrick. In the future, Cookie Day may be incorporated into a student art sale. For more information on Meredith art exhibitions, visit www.meredith.edu/art/gallery. Date Submitted: 2008-12-04 |
