Meredith Offers Learn 'N Serve Fridays

Meredith College students will have the opportunity to learn in action during the College’s “Learn ’N Serve Fridays” series.

Through “Learn ’N Serve Fridays,” students, faculty and staff will be able to combine volunteering at Meredith’s Habitat for Humanity home with discussions of related issues. From 2 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., participants will work at the Habitat site, and then return to campus for dinner, dessert and conversation.

The topic for October 24 will be sustainability, with a discussion on the way people build and live in houses has an impact on the environment. On November 14, the Learn 'N Serve event will feature a discussion on special populations. The first event, held October 17, focused on housing and homelessness.

The series is “a way to connect the Habitat project with how we are thinking about the world and what we are doing in the world,” said Shannon Kelly, Meredith’s service learning coordinator.

Students can earn convocation credit for participating. While space is limited to 12 spots for the Habitat volunteering portion of “Learn ’N Serve,” additional guests are welcome to attend the dinner and discussion.

Transportation will be provided to and from the work site.

“Learn ’N Serve Fridays” are sponsored by the Office of Service-Learning and the Center for Women, Ethics and Public Life.
