Tornado Watch In Effect for Wake County 2/24/12

The Wake County area, including the Meredith campus, is under a tornado watch on Friday, February 24. The watch is in effect until 8 p.m.

A tornado watch is issued when conditions are right for a tornado to form. A tornado watch must not be confused with a tornado warning: a watch does not imply that the severe weather is actually occurring, only that conditions have created a significant risk for it. If severe weather actually does occur, a tornado warning or severe thunderstorm warning will be issued.

Meredith has a siren warning system that allows the College to alert the campus about emergency issues that require immediate attention, such as a tornado warning. If the siren warning sounds, take cover in a building until the all clear is given.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to monitor weather conditions and familiarize themselves with the “Severe Weather” tips and procedures outlined in Meredith’s emergency plan. The plan can be found at www.meredith.edu/emergency-planning/emergency-procedures.htm#weather.
