EndNote versus
EndNote Web
EndNote Web accounts are available free to Meredith faculty, students, and staff. This Web-based tool provides users with online storage for their references and the ability to instantly format bibliographies in their word processor.
Create an Account
To use EndNote Web you must open an account. To initiate an account you should be on campus (this is a one-time requirement). After your account has been established you may access your account from any computer. Sign Up for an account.
Once you have established an account you will use the myendnoteweb.com page to access your library.
Note: Depending on the browser you use, you may see a Security Certificate Warning the first time you create or sign into an account. In Windows Internet Explorer 7, click on Continue to this website. In Firefox, click on the link to add an exception.
Import and Add References
ISI Web of Knowledge and EBSCOhost databases support a direct import to EndNote Web. Other databases require saving to a file before importing.
Below is a list of databases and database providers with instructions on how to import references using various import filters.
ABI/Inform Databases (ProQuest)
In ABI/Inform databases:
- Perform search as normal.
- Mark references to be imported into EndNote Web.
- Click on Export/Save.
- In the drop down box, click on ProCite, EndNote or Reference Manager.
- Save file onto your computer (file will have an .ris extension).
In EndNote Web
- Click on the tab Collect. Click on Import References.
- Under File :, click on Browse button and select the saved file from your computer.
- Under Import Option :, click on the dropdown listbox and select ProQuest.
- Select Unfiled.
- Click on Import .
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled or Selected folder.
Academic Search Complete (EBSCOhost)
In Academic Search Complete:
- Perform search as normal.
- Add records to folder.
- Go to: Folder View and select items for export to EndNote Web.
- Click on Export.
- Select Direct Export to Endnote Web.
- Click on Save.
- Login to Endnote Web if prompted.
- References will be imported directly into EndNote Web.
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled folder.
Art and Architecture Complete (EBSCOhost)
In Art and Architecture Complete
- Perform search as normal.
- Add records to folder.
- Go to: Folder View and select items for export to EndNote Web.
- Click on Export.
- Select Direct Export to Endnote Web.
- Click on Save.
- Login to Endnote Web if prompted.
- References will be imported directly into EndNote Web.
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled folder.
Arts & Humanities Citation Index (ISI)
In Arts & Humanities Citation Index:
- Perform search as normal.
- Mark reference to be imported into EndNote Web and click on Add to Marked List.
- Click on Marked List (at top of page) to view references.
- Click on Save to My EndNote Web.
In EndNote Web:
- Signin to My EndNote Web when prompted.
- References will be imported into EndNote Web.
- Click on the tab My EndNote Web.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled folder.
Business Source Complete (EBSCOhost)
In Business Source Complete:
- Perform search as normal.
- Add records to folder.
- Go to: Folder View and select items for export to EndNote Web.
- Click on Export.
- Select Direct Export to Endnote Web.
- Click on Save.
- Login to Endnote Web if prompted.
- References will be imported directly into EndNote Web.
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled folder.
CINAHL (EBSCOhost)
In CINAHL:
- Perform search as normal.
- Add records to folder.
- Go to: Folder View and select items for export to EndNote Web.
- Click on Export.
- Select Direct Export to Endnote Web.
- Click on Save.
- Login to Endnote Web if prompted.
- References will be imported directly into EndNote Web.
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled folder.
Communication & Mass Media Complete (EBSCOhost)
In Communication & Mass Media Complete:
- Perform search as normal.
- Add records to folder.
- Go to: Folder View and select items for export to EndNote Web.
- Click on Export.
- Select Direct Export to Endnote Web.
- Click on Save.
- Login to Endnote Web if prompted.
- References will be imported directly into EndNote Web.
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled folder.
EBSCOhost
In an EBSCO database:
- Perform search as normal.
- Add records to folder.
- Go to: Folder View and select items for export to EndNote Web.
- Click on Export.
- Select Direct Export to Endnote Web.
- Click on Save.
- Login to Endnote Web if prompted.
- References will be imported directly into EndNote Web.
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled folder.
ERIC (EBSCOhost)
In ERIC:
- Perform search as normal.
- Add records to folder.
- Go to: Folder View and select items for export to EndNote Web.
- Click on Export.
- Select Direct Export to Endnote Web.
- Click on Save.
- Login to Endnote Web if prompted.
- References will be imported directly into EndNote Web.
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled folder.
Gale
In a Gale database:
- Perform search as normal.
- Mark records to be imported into EndNote Web.
- Click on Marked Items icon located at top of page.
- Click on Citation Tools. Select EndNote.
- Click on Export.
- Save file onto your computer (file will have an .ris extension).
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab Collect. Click on Import References.
- Under File :, click on Browse button and select the saved file from your computer.
- Under Import Option :, click on the dropdown listbox and select the import filter RefMan RIS.
- Select Group.
- Click on Import.
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled or Selected folder.
Google Scholar
In Google Scholar:
- Go to the Google Scholar home page at http://scholar.google.com/
- Click on the link to Scholar Preferences.
- In Bibiographic Manager, under show links to import citations into, select EndNote.
- Click on Save Preferences . These preferences should persist from one browser session to another, as they are located in your cookies.
- Conduct your search in Google Scholar. Each record displayed will have an Import into EndNote link.
- Save the file onto your computer (file will have a .enw extension).
Note: Setting preferences will not work if you have disabled cookies in your browser.
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab Collect . Click on Import References .
- Under File :, click on Browse button and select the saved file from your computer.
- Under Import Option :, click on the dropdown listbox and select EndNote Import.
- Select Group
- Click on Import .
- Click on the tab My References
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled or Selected folder.
Health Source databases (EBSCOhost)
In Health Source database:
- Perform search as normal.
- Add records to folder.
- Go to: Folder View and select items for export to EndNote Web.
- Click on Export.
- Select Direct Export to Endnote Web.
- Click on Save.
- Login to Endnote Web if prompted.
- References will be imported directly into EndNote Web.
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled folder.
Historical Abstracts (EBSCOhost)
In Historical Abstracts:
- Perform search as normal.
- Add records to folder.
- Go to: Folder View and select items for export to EndNote Web.
- Click on Export.
- Select Direct Export to Endnote Web.
- Click on Save.
- Login to Endnote Web if prompted.
- References will be imported directly into EndNote Web.
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled folder.
Humanities International Complete (EBSCOhost)
In Humanities International Complete:
- Perform search as normal.
- Add records to folder.
- Go to: Folder View and select items for export to EndNote Web.
- Click on Export.
- Select Direct Export to Endnote Web.
- Click on Save.
- Login to Endnote Web if prompted.
- References will be imported directly into EndNote Web.
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled folder.
ISI
In an ISI database:
- Perform search as normal.
- Mark reference to be imported into EndNote Web and click on Add to Marked List.
- Click on Marked List (at top of page) to view references.
- Click on Save to My EndNote Web.
In EndNote Web:
- Signin to My EndNote Web when prompted.
- References will be imported into EndNote Web.
- Click on the tab My EndNote Web.
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled folder.
JSTOR
In JSTOR:
- Perform search as normal.
- Mark records
- Click on Export Citation
- Select a format: RIS file.
- Save citation onto your computer (file will have a .ris extension).
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab Collect. Click on Import References.
- Under File :, click on Browse button and select the saved file from your computer.
- Under Import Option :, click on the dropdown listbox and select the import filter JSTOR.
- Select Group.
- Click on Import.
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled or Selected folder.
Library Catalog (Meredith)
In Library Catalog:
- Perform search as normal.
- Mark the references to be saved into EndNote Web, and click on Save Marked Records.
- Click on View Saved.
- Click on Print/Export.
- Under Format of List: select EndNote/Refworks.
- Under Send List To: select Local Disk.
- Click Submit.
- Save the file onto your computer (file will have a .txt extension).
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab Collect. Click on Import References.
- Under File :, click on Browse button and select the saved file from your computer.
- Under Import Option :, click on the dropdown listbox and select Meredith Coll .
- Select Group.
- Click on Import .
- Click on the tab My References
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled folder.
Literary Reference Center Plus(EBSCOhost)
In Literary Reference Center Plus:
- Perform search as normal.
- Add records to folder.
- Go to: Folder View and select items for export to EndNote Web.
- Click on Export.
- Select Direct Export to EndNote Web.
- Click on Save.
- Login to EndNote Web when prompted.
- References will be imported directly into EndNote Web.
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled folder.
Literature Resource Center (Gale)
In a Gale database:
- Perform search as normal.
- Mark records to be imported into EndNote Web.
- Click on Marked Items icon located at top of page.
- Click on Citation Tools. Select EndNote.
- Click on Export.
- Save file as onto your computer (file will have a .ris extension).
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab Collect. Click on Import References.

In MLA International Bibliography:
- Perform search as normal.
- Add records to folder.
- Go to: Folder View and select items for export to EndNote Web.

- Login to Endnote Web if prompted.
- References will be imported directly into EndNote Web.
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled folder.
Music Index (EBSCOhost)
In Music Index:
- Perform search as normal.
- Add records to folder.
- Go to: Folder View and select items for export to EndNote Web.
- Click on Export.
- Select Direct Export to Endnote Web.
- Click on Save.
- Login to Endnote Web if prompted.
- References will be imported directly into EndNote Web.
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled folder.
OCLC FirstSearch
In a FirstSearch database:
- Perform search as normal.
- Mark records to be imported into EndNote Web.
- Click on Marked Records located at top of page.
- Click on Export. Select EndNote.
- Click on Export.
- Save file onto your computer (file will have a .txt extension).
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab Collect. Click on Import References.
- Under File :, click on Browse button and select the saved file from your computer.
- Under Import Option :, select OCLC
- Select Group.
- Click on Import.
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled or Selected folder.
OneSearch (OCLC)
In OneSearch:
To add 1 record at a time to EndNote Web
- Perform search as normal.
- Click on the title of the selected record.
- Click on Cite/Export. Select Export to EndNote
- Save file onto your computer (file will have a .ris extension).
To add multiple records at a time, you must create a OneSearch WorldCat account. You will be prompted to create a WorldCat account when you save your items to a list or you may create an account using the WorldCat Sign in.
- Perform search as normal.
- Mark records to be imported into EndNote Web.
- Click Save (you will be prompted to login and select a list).
- Selected items will be added to your list.
- Open your list and select Citations View.
- Export to EndNote
- Save file onto your computer (file will have a .ris extension).
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab Collect. Click on Import References.
- Under File :, click on Browse button and select the saved file from your computer.
- Under Import Option :, select RefMan RIS
- Select Group.
- Click on Import.
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled or Selected folder.
Philosophers Index (EBSCOhost)
In Philosophers Index:
- Perform search as normal.
- Add records to folder.
- Go to: Folder View and select items for export to EndNote Web.
- Click on Export.
- Select Direct Export to Endnote Web.

- From the Send to drop-down menu located on the top right, select File.
- Select Format: Medline
- Save the file onto your computer (file will have a .txt extension).
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab Collect. Click on Import References.
- Under File :, click on Browse button and select the saved file from your computer.
- Under Import Option :, click on the dropdown listbox and select PubMed (NLM).
- Select Group.
- Click on Import.
- Click on the tab My References
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled folder.
Readers' Guide Retrospective (EBSCOhost)
In Readers' Guide Retrospective:
- Perform search as normal.
- Add records to folder.
- Go to: Folder View and select items for export to EndNote Web.

- Perform search as normal.
- Click on title to view record.
- Click on Export Citation . (located just above the abstract)
- Export: Select Citation or Citation and Abstract.
- Select Citation Manager: EndNote
- Click on Export Citation.
- Save file onto your computer (file will have a .enw extension).
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab Collect. Click on Import References.
- Under File :, click on Browse button and select the saved file from your computer.
- Under Import Option :, click on the dropdown listbox and select SpringerLink.
- Select Group.
- Click on Import.
- Click on the tab My References.
- Your references will appear in the Unfiled or Selected folder.
Web of Science (ISI)
In Web of Science:
- Perform search as normal.
- Mark reference to be imported into EndNote Web and click on Add to Marked List.
- Click on Marked List (at top of page) to view references.
- Click on Save to My EndNote Web.
In EndNote Web:

- Perform search as normal.
- Mark references to be imported into EndNote Web.
- Click on Export Citation .
- Format: EndNote
- Export Type: Citation and Abstract
- Cick Submit.
- Save file onto your computer (file will have an .enw extension).
In EndNote Web:
- Click on the tab Collect.
- Click on Import References.
- Under File: , browse and select the saved file from your computer.

- Under To: select unfiled or a group
- Click on Import
- Click on the tab My References.
