[Top] Hello, my name is Shanisha Barnes and I am a student at North Carolina Wesleyan College. This is now my 3rd year here and I am almost done. I am very involved in organizations on campus like the Gospel Choir, the Modeling troop, Vice President of the Student Government Association, the Christian Club for students. Besides that I am also an inductee of Omicron Delta Kappa, which is a leadership society, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, which the first black Greek sorority founded. Although my major is biology and I will be applying to graduate school to get my doctorate in Physical Therapy, my first passion is to become a famous actress. That may sound a bit far off from what I’m doing now, but you always need a backup plan! I am from Washington, D.C. the capitol of the United States. I live in an apartment in the Southeastern quadrant; D.C. is split up into 4 quadrants – S.E., N.E, S.W, and N.W. I don’t live by the White House, which is in N.W., but during the summer, I work about 8 blocks away from it. I have had close members in my family die from AIDS, which probably increases my interest in this class. I am also fully aware or the politics that go into the treatment and searchable cure of AIDS and how it affects Americans. [Top] My name is Erin Bryant. I am a 21 year old senior at North Carolina Wesleyan College. I am majoring in biology but may possibly pick up a minor. I chose to major in biology because it intrigues me, you can never stop learning. Also because I wanted to prove to others and to myself that I can major in a tough field and be successful in it. I love food, all kinds of food. Junk food, healthy food, just food. I’m a sucker for pasta and fruit. I love to cook, and always want to try new things. I also enjoy sports. I played volleyball for my college for the past 3 years and greatly enjoyed myself. I also enjoy football, basketball, soccer, well pretty much everything. I love animals. I have two Chihuahua and Dotsonmixed female puppies. They are both 6 month old sisters named Abigail or “Abby” and Daisy Mae. I love to laugh and smile and just have a good time. I love movies, as I have an extensive collection. As with everybody else there are also several things that I despise. I absolutely hate clowns! They are by far my biggest fear. I am also afraid that I won’t get to do all that I want to do before I die. I always try to live my life to the fullest and have no regrets. My big future plans are either to be a high school science teacher or teach overseas. I want to travel, that has always been my big dream. Other cultures and languages interest me and I would like to learn as many languages as I can. Beside my career plans, I also want to get married and have 2 children, hopefully girls, but any healthy child would be perfect. I want to live in the country but not far from the city, just out far enough where it’s peaceful and not all the noise from the hustle and bustle. I am originally from a very small country town. If you’ve ever heard the jokes about the cities where you have rednecks and men named Bubba with missing teeth, you’d be perfectly describing my town. Not everyone is like that, but a good deal of them are. I get constantly picked on for having a strong country accent, but it gives me “flavor”! My home city probably has about 600 people in it, if we’re lucky, and I can guarantee you that I know every single one of them. [Top] My name is Ashley Harris and I am a sophomore here at NCWC. I am 20 years old and I am a Biology major. I chose biology as a major because I have always been interested in the life and beauty within the environment. I am a pretty quiet person around people that I don’t know. My favorite thing to do is listen to music and/or write poetry. I plan to take my degree in biology and work in a major laboratory setting preferably in forensics. I find it very fun to do tests and experiments and I would enjoy doing those things as a career. In the next 10 years I can see myself married and having a job that is satisfying / fulfilling. Many people say that I am very sweet and loving but it comes naturally to me to caring and giving to the people that are close to me. I come from a very small town: Warrenton, N.C. In Warrenton everyone knows everyone. There is no way to be around town and not run into someone you know. There are no places for teenagers and young adults to hang out or have fun. We don’t have a mall or movie theater and there are only 5 good restaurants to eat at. Many people who grow up in Warrenton go off to college and don’t come back to live because out town doesn’t have much to offer. For the most part, it is a good place to raise children or retire but it has nothing to offer people my age. Since our town is not very interesting, my parents introduced my sister and me to many different types of music and cultures. We love watching documentaries and shows on different African tribes and cultures and my parents have collected several African artifacts and statues. I am looking forward to learning about Kenya as well as the experiences that the students at Kenyatta University have had as college students as well as individuals in society. This course will be a wonderful chance to broaden my knowledge and I am looking forward to interacting with the students of Africa. [Top] My name is Temesha Jones. I am a 24 year college senior at North Carolina Wesleyan College. My major is psychology. I have hopes of attending North Carolina Central University after I receive my bachelor’s degree. At NCCU I will be studying Career Counseling. I chose career counseling because I have learned that I enjoy asking people what their plans are in life. I enjoy giving people advice and motivating them. I like networking and finding ways to improve others lives. At North Carolina Wesleyan College I worked in the career counseling office. In the career center I learned about many resources that career counselors use to help students reach their goals and learn what they are interest in and what their strengths are. I chose NCCU because it is a state college and it is the only college that catches my interest at this time. I plan to go as far as I will in school. I want to work in the school system or a youth center. I believe I work well with young adults better than children.
[Top] Who am I? Well my name is, Jessie Kremidas, and I am a junior at North Carolina Wesleyan College, and my field of Study is biology. I hope this biography gives you some insight into my life. Some of the things I am going to address are my ambitions, history, and present events. Like I said, I am a junior in college, and my major is biology. I chose biology as my field of study because it is a very competitive field and to succeed would let me believe that I have accomplished something in my life. I am blind and sciences are primarily a visual field. I want to prove to myself and others that even though I am limited by my sight, it will not destroy my dreams. Being blind has made me more aware on how difficult and cold this world can be, and I want others who have a disabilities to know that they can succeed in whatever they put their hearts into. I came to North Carolina from a small town in, New Hampshire called Dunbarton. New Hampshire is approximately 750 miles away from my college. I traveled here to start over; no one knew me here in North Carolina, and I wanted to leave my past behind and focus on my future. My town in New Hampshire has one country store which is roughly 4 miles from my house, an Elementary school, plus a town hall, and a cemetery. My house is located across the street from a lake, and I spent my childhood fishing, swimming, and hiking. Here in, Rocky Mount, where my college is located there are restaurants, a mall, lots of shopping plazas, and some clubs; yet there is nothing to do… I also lived in, Boston Massachusetts. There I worked at the Science Museum and fell in love with working with a variety of animals, but my favorites were the snakes and lizards. My boyfriend passionately dislikes snakes, but I will not hold that against him. Living in a big city gave me the confidence to be independent. I believe that if I did not spend that time on my own in a large city I probably would not be here in college. After college I want to work in a science museum or zoo taking care of the live animal exhibits. In the future I see my self being the curator of a zoo or animal exhibit at a museum. One day I want to open my own zoo. Before I can be a curator I need to obtain my Masters and for that reason I am going to earn my Masters in Zoology, and then one day get my Doctorate in Herpetology. I hope this brief summery of my life has given you some insight into my world; now I want to learn about yours. What type of musical genre do you listen to? I perceive myself to have an eclectic taste in music, for example, I listen to rock, rap, classical, and some opera. How many siblings share a house with you? When I am home visiting from college I stay with my parents, but I do have one older sister. My sister has three children; she has two sons and one daughter. [Top] My name is Alisha Nelson and I am a Senior Biology Major. I am from Upper Marlboro, Maryland which is located fifteen minutes away from the Nation’s Capital, Washington D.C. Once I graduate, I plan to attend graduate school. I am also planning to travel to places outside of the United States. I love to travel and meet new people. I really enjoy spontaneous trips; those trips are the most fun. [Top] Hello my name is Lauren White and I am a Sophomore at North Carolina Wesleyan College. I was born in Washington DC at Columbia Hospital for Women on August 10 1986. I am nineteen years old and I feel as though my life has just begun. I come from a large family including my Mother and Father who own a hair salon in the heart of South East DC, My two older siblings Faith and Tony and also my two younger siblings Ian and Angelica. Yes I am the middle child and yes it is tough but I have managed to become the favorite in the bunch. I attended Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg Maryland which is an all girls catholic high school. I graduated in 2004 and since then I have been trying to find myself in this big world. I am a pre-med major and I plan to attend medical school to study obstetrics. When I first arrived at Wesleyan my concentration was Psychology but I have since changed it to combine both my interests. I decided to become an obstetrician because I always found it interesting and fascinating how life is brought into the world. I also enjoy psychology and how the mind works. I love to help people with their problems and I also like to try and read people by what they say and their actions. My other career interest is modeling. I have been modeling for two years now and I will one day be on or in a copy of Sports illustrated and or Victorias Secret. These two magazines have been the focus of my modeling career since I got started. I love modeling because I feel like when im on the runway I am free to express myself the way I truly would like to. My other interests include singing and just beings an "almost grown teenager. I am enjoying my college years and hope that I can pick up and experience as much as I can. I love to shop and I love to party with my girls. My life is what I make of it so im trying to make it as exciting as possible. [Top] |
