Hi. My name is Kathleen Penrod and I am a full-time sophomore at North Carolina Wesleyan College.
I am pursuing a major in Biology and am extremely interested in wildlife and nature.
My goal in life, career aside, is to educate people and share my knowledge about the wonderful world we live in through a perspective of science. I would love to start a summer camp for children and young teens focusing on biology in which I would take the group on nature trails and teach about what the environment can do for us.
I spend a lot of my time hiking and visiting parks but I also love to cook and care for my two cats at home. I am currently volunteering Duke Primate Center where lemur research is done and I hope to help out at the coastal Wildlife Refuge too. I used to play lacrosse and also rock climb as often as I can (Mount Kilimanjaro, here I come!).
I am originally from Texas and definitely plan to go back. I would love to visit Australia and parts of Africa and Madagascar; the wildlife is so amazing!
I want to learn as much as I can and never stop. Africa has always been a magical place in books and on television but I don't know much about it. Hopefully in the African Wildlife course, I will be able to understand why the place has such a mysterious reputation.
