Meredith College--CORE-947-A Sub-Saharan Africa--Fall 2006

My name is Michele Jackson.

I am a 32 year old full-time, non-traditional student at Meredith College and a single mother of a very bright and beautiful seven year old girl. My daughter is my sunshine, inspiration, and motivation.

I am majoring in biology with a concentration in health sciences. I will graduate from Meredith College in May 2007. I plan to get my master's degree in physician assistant studies after graduation.

I have worked as a certified nursing assistant for over ten years. My place is in the medical field. I enjoy working with people, and I get satisfaction from taking care of patients.

A long term goal of mine is to possibly obtain a PhD in virology or immunology. I look forward to the opportunity to travel to some of the same places in Kenya which Dr. Mecham visited in order to volunteer my medical abilities. I would like to go each summer so that my daughter may come along. I am interested in participating in AIDS/HIV research and prevention. I am looking forward to communicating with you via the internet.
