Jambo! My name is Lauren Thie.
I am 21 years old and I have lived all of my life in the Southeastern United States.
I am a senior biology major at Meredith College and am interested in pursuing graduate studies in public health and primary care medicine.
I work with the Student Government Association at Meredith.
I have dreamed of visiting Africa since I can remember, and was given the opportunity to visit Kenya this summer. For five weeks, I stayed near Mount Kilimanjaro and studied wildlife management.
The experience I had in Kenya was indescribable and I hope to visit again one day. Since I learned a lot about resource competition and wildlife management this summer, I am particularly interested in learning more about HIV/AIDS and the background of the neglected diseases in Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in Kenya.
I look forward to the opportunities for cross-cultural interactions in this course that will teach me more about these topics!
