Meredith College--CORE-947-A Sub-Saharan Africa--Fall 2006

My name is Elizabeth Greene, and I am a 21 year old senior at Meredith College.

I am graduating in December with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and hope to continue my education in a graduate program in Clinical Psychology or Experimental Psychology.

I like to be busy and involved on campus!

I love to travel. I lived and studied in Ireland for 4 months a few years ago, and I hope to return soon to visit and possibly to live.

I first became interested with the issues involving HIV/Aids in Africa while watching the film The Constant Gardner.

I hate to admit that many of the people in the US do in fact base their knowledge of world events on information that they receive through the film industry. But alas, it did spark my interest.

I took a 2 part course this summer in Kiswahili in order to gain some more insight into African culture and the issues that are happing today and of course to learn the language.

I am in this course to further my knowledge and understanding of what is happening in Africa, and what I can do to help a region that I have become so interested and passionate about.
