Rotations and Schedules

The Meredith dietetic internship program if offered from August to May of each year, with holiday breaks in November and December. Students work at least 40 hours per week, including some weekends during the supervised field experience.

Supervised Practice

Meredith's dietetic interns have the opportunity to work in some of the world's most prestigious institutions, organizations, medical and research centers, and health and wellness facilities. Students rotate through six supervised placement sites during their internships.

There are 29 weeks of hands-on practice, supervised by Registered Dietitians (R.D.s) in three primary settings -- medical nutrition therapy (13 weeks), community nutrition (8 weeks), and food service management (8 weeks). During medical nutrition therapy and community nutrition placements, students learn to assess patients, counsel them about relevant diet and nutrition issues, and make appropriate referrals. In the food service management placements, students participate in all aspects of management and administration -- from inventory and purchasing to staffing, creating menus and planning events with nutritional themes. 9 credit hours

Medical Nutrition Therapy Seminar

This is one of two graduate courses that dietetic internship students take; the other is a graduate level elective. 6 credit hours

Enrichment Experiences

This concludes the program, adding to the number of hours of supervised practice obtained during the program year. Students design an individual experience and set goals in any area of dietetics for this experience. 1 credit hour
