Why Meredith’s Master of Education Program?

MED Program ImageMeredith’s Master of Education program offers many competitive advantages—small classes taught by dedicated faculty, convenient scheduling from which to choose one of five specialized tracks—which means you earn a quality education that advances your unique professional and personal goals.

Individual Attention

With small class sizes, Meredith’s education faculty and graduate school staff are able to get to know and support you. This personal touch, combined with the program’s overarching emphasis on academic quality and relevance, means as a Meredith M.Ed. graduate you develop the confidence and knowledge that prepares you to go from our classrooms to your own classroom.

Your Professors

Meredith’s Department of Education faculty serves in leadership roles on the boards of national, state and local education organizations. Your professors bring a variety of interests and specialties to their classrooms, which contribute to an interactive and well-rounded program. The graduate faculty members are actively involved in research, assessment and partnerships with public, private and charter schools.

Your Program and Tuition

Meredith prides itself on having a comparable program and tuition with area colleges and universities. Tuition for 2009–10 is $420 per credit hour plus $60 student fees per semester.

Tuition Assistance—As a working North Carolina teacher, you can receive a $200 tuition credit for each three-credit hour course you enroll in at Meredith. To obtain information on current tuition and fees, click here.

Scheduling

During the academic year, classes are held in the late afternoons and evenings Monday through Friday as well as some Saturday mornings to coordinate with the schedule of working teachers. Faculty and staff work to accommodate juggling the demands of a challenging curriculum with your career and personal responsibilities. The M.Ed. with AIG is hybrid, with 70% coursework on-line, 30% coursework on-campus.

Specialized Tracks

Select the focus of your degree from five concentrations: elementary education, English as a Second Language (ESL) reading, special education (general curriculum), or academically and intellectually gifted (AIG). Add-on licensure is also available in the areas of ESL, reading, special education (general curriculum) or AIG. Current teachers interested in renewing a teaching license may take master’s level course work as a non-degree student.
