Graduate Education Programs

Which graduate program in education do I need?

• If you have a teaching license and want a master’s degree, see our Master of Education program below.

• If you have a license and wish to add another licensure area, read about the add-on licensure program.

• If you want an initial teaching license for elementary education or special education (general curriculum), see our Master of Arts in Teaching program below.

• If you want an initial teaching license in other areas, see our licensure-only program for women.

Master of Education

At Meredith College, we offer a Master of Education for women and men with specialties in elementary education, English as a second language, reading, special education (general curriculum), or AIG.

Designed for the K–12 teacher who has a baccalaureate degree and has or is eligible for an initial teaching license, the co-educational program gives graduates the advanced tools they need to serve effectively today’s schools. Meredith’s Master of Education program combines educational theory and practical applications.

Master of Arts in Teaching

The Meredith College MAT program serves the woman or man who has a bachelor’s degree in a discipline other than education, who is committed to becoming a teacher, and who is seeking initial NC teaching licensure in elementary education or special education (general curriculum). The goal of the program is to prepare highly qualified beginning teachers who know how to teach all students, who have the skills to collaborate with professionals and families, who know the content areas, and who understand their roles in local, national and global contexts.
