Would you like to share the joy of reading with a child?
Several clubs (including Sociology/Criminology Club, Psi Chi, Social Work and others) have banded together to collect books for Barwell Road Elementary School in a program called BOOKS FOR BARWELL! Located in Southeast Raleigh, this school has 66% of the students getting free or reduced lunches.

This Fall over 110 Meredith College students have been working at the school for 10-15 hours so we have a strong connection with this school and the students there. In the proces of working ehre, Mereidth students have become aware of the academic needs of many Barwell Road Elementary children. We want the students to see Meredith College as a partner in their academic growth and for that reason we are gathering new or gently used children books for reading levels from kindergarten to 5th grade. Our goal is to collect 1600 books, so each child can be given two books at holiday season.

There will be a planning meeting for co-sponsors and those who want to be involved in this service project on Friday, November 6 at 10:00 am in Ledford 301. If you or your club would like to help please email Dr. Brown at brownlo@meredith.edu

On November 20, there will be a book sorting meeting at 10 a.m. in Led 301. We will be wrapping the books together and sorting them by grades.
Remember… if everyone gives at least one book we provide a great Christmas gift for children!
