Meredith supports lifelong learning within the Raleigh community in a variety of ways, including lectures that are open to the public, programs for youth and occasional non-credit short courses for adults, such as the one below.
Focusing on Form Each summer since 1997, the Meredith College Department of English has sponsored a writing workshop for women who are writing, who want to write, or who want to try writing. The workshop offers instruction, critique of manuscripts and—not the least of its advantages—new friends who share a common interest. During this one-week workshop, outstanding instructors guide writers in their form of choice: poetry, fiction or creative nonfiction.

A gift from a longtime supporter of Meredith College provided funds to support the creation of The Ruby McSwain Magnolia Collection. The collection will feature some of the most beautiful and diverse selections of species and cultivated varieties that will both educate and inspire Meredith students and the greater community.

During daylight hours, visitors may walk, bike or run a self-guided tour along the Reedy Creek Greenway, a portion of which runs through campus. Sculptures and other artwork line the path, which begins at the corner of Faircloth and Gorman streets and continues through Meredith’s campus to the neighboring North Carolina Museum of Art Museum Park.
The Meredith Greenway Arboretum Project, managed by Meredith’s Grounds Department, features a variety of trees native to North Carolina, and sections of dogwood, cherry, magnolia and redbud trees. The trees are organized by plant families so that trees in the same botanical family are grouped together to aid in comparative study of the tree species. In the spring of 2010, Meredith began planting an extensive and diverse magnolia collection.
Meredith’s beautiful campus makes it a desirable location for special events such as weddings. For many years, we have hosted a variety of other community-based events, including N.C. Governor’s School East and the Komen NC Triangle Race for the Cure.

Youth Programs
Meredith offers a variety of programs designed to help young people of all ages explore their interests, develop new skills and have fun. All programs are facilitated by experienced teachers and coaches—some are for girls only, others are for both girls and boys.
