Service Account Manager, Cisco Systems, Inc.
Utilizing Meredith College's Career Center was extremely valuable for my transition from college to the Corporate World. I had my sights set on Cisco since my junior year at Meredith. Reaching out to the career center helped fine tune my strengths so I was best able to interview for the position of a lifetime!
I attended the networking events that were put on by that Career Center in the Science and Math building. This allowed me to get exposure to Meredith alum that worked in and around our community. I took advantage of the networking events to get exposure and to grasp what kind options I had to jump-start my career. I, along with other students, was strongly encouraged by the Career Center, and Dr. Hurt, to begin networking early. It is great to start making contacts around the community, even if you have not chosen a specific major or concentration. In order to be prepared for such events go by the Career Center and have them look over your resume and help you create a cover letter. Purchase the business cards they have to offer. It is an easy way to get across the most important information about you. On top of that, look at networking events around the community. See what N.C. State has to offer as far as job fairs. It can only help!
For Meredith students just coming into business, take advantage of the internships around the area. I interned with the Jimmy V. Celebrity Golf Classic and made great contacts in all areas of work! If you have the opportunity to study abroad, I would encourage you to take the summer or a semester to go out and see what the rest of the world has to offer. How great would it be to have contacts all around the world?! I regret not taking the opportunity to study abroad, even though I ended up exactly where I wanted to be. Seeing the world from a different perspective can only help you along your career decision path.
Take advantage of all the resources Meredith College has to offer, especially the Career Center.
Good Luck and Best Wishes!

Assistant Manager, Walgreens
I had been working in the hospitality industry for 10 years and was ready for better advancement opportunities. I knew that it had been a while since I searched for a job, so I decided to take CPS 301, a course for juniors and seniors to help them become successful career seekers.
One of the assignments in CPS 301 was to create or redo your resume and post it on the Career Center website. After much hard work, I was able to create a beautiful resume and post it on the Career Center website by the assigned deadline.
Within the same week of posting my resume, I received an email from the Corporate offices of Walgreens in Deerfield, IL expressing that they were very impressed with my resume and was interested in interviewing me for a management position for one of their stores.
The interview was set for November 8th, 2007 and the rest is history. I I began working for Walgreens in December 2007 and I love it. I'm an Assistant Manager and am up for promotion in April 2009.
Walgreens is an awesome company to work for and there are many opportunities for advancement. I am so thankful to Meredith College and everyone in the Career Center for their support and assistance with helping me reach my goals.
