Department of Biological Sciences
The Department of Biological Sciences offers a wide variety of courses that fulfill the needs of students pursuing a career in the life or health sciences, as well as students with the desire to study biology as a part of their liberal arts education at Meredith College. Biology graduates leave Meredith prepared to enter graduate programs, begin professional careers or both.
Courses are taught by a diverse faculty with expertise in ecology, environmental science, anatomy and physiology, invertebrate and vertebrate zoology, plant biology, genetics, microbiology, cell and molecular biology, biochemistry and biotechnology.
Research is a core component of the undergraduate biology curriculum. Our students are strongly encouraged to collaborate with a faculty mentor and participate in existing research projects or initiate new research directions. Our faculty's strong local and international ties also provide research opportunities for our students. The Meredith Undergraduate Research Program awards stipends to students who conduct research.
